Eco Tasar’s journey began 16 years back as a part of Pradan — a leading NGO in India. In the year 1984, PRADAN a national level NGO started working with the tribal communities in the villages of erstwhile Bihar ( now Jharkhand). It helped the traditional tasar silk cocoon rearers with techno managerial support to increase their incomes from cocoon rearing. As a sustainable social venture, Eco Tasar provides employment to over 500 families in rural India and also works as an independent entity with activities that span the entire gamut of the value chain : from sourcing to marketing of rural handmade Tasar products that are of the highest quality and are increasingly in great demand across the world.
Eco Tasar products are sourced directly from the artisans. Weaving and dyeing is done as close to the artisans as possible. Lastly and most importantly Eco Tasar has chosen the path of Handmade yarn or fabric only and has never got enticed by machine made choice.
